Who Should Be Admitted to the Lord’s Supper? 4 Views

Scripture Focus

"Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord."

— 1 Corinthians 11:27

A Deeper Prayer

Lord, we come before you with humility and a desire to understand your heart on the matter of who should be admitted to the Lord's Supper. As we navigate the complexities of this issue, we ask that you grant us wisdom and discernment, that we might not mistakenly exclude those who genuinely seek to follow you, nor include those who would partake in a manner that is unworthy of your sacrifice. We know that the Lord's Supper is a sacred act, one that commemorates your death and resurrection, and we want to approach it with the reverence and respect it deserves. Help us, Lord, to create an environment where all who participate are doing so with a pure heart and a willingness to examine themselves, as you instruct us in your word. May our communion be a time of reflection, repentance, and renewal, and may it draw us closer to you and to one another. As we consider the different views on this matter, we pray that you would give us a spirit of unity and love, that we might prioritize the things that bring us together, rather than those that drive us apart. May our discussions and debates be tempered with kindness, compassion, and a deep commitment to your teachings.

A Short Prayer

"Dear Lord, guide us as we consider who should be admitted to the Lord's Supper, help us to discern your will and to welcome all who truly seek you, may our communion be a time of unity and reverence for your sacrifice."
