Surrender and Vocation in the Life of Lilias Trotter
Scripture Focus
"For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
— Ephesians 2:10
A Deeper Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, we come before you in humility, seeking to understand the depths of surrender and vocation in our lives. We are inspired by the life of Lilias Trotter, who gave up a life of comfort and artistic acclaim to follow your call to missionary work in North Africa. Her story teaches us that true surrender is not just about giving up our desires, but about giving ourselves fully to your will, and in doing so, discovering our true purpose and vocation. As we reflect on Lilias' life, we are reminded that our own vocations are not just about what we do, but about who we are in you, and the good works you have prepared for us to do. Help us to trust in your sovereignty and guidance, that we may be faithful in our own surrender, and obedient to the call you have on our lives. May we, like Lilias, be willing to take risks and face challenges for the sake of the Gospel, and may our lives be a testament to the power of surrender and the beauty of living out our true vocation. As we journey on this path of surrender and discovery, fill us with your Holy Spirit, that we may be empowered to fulfill the good works you have prepared for us, and bring glory to your name.
A Short Prayer
"Dear Lord, help us to surrender our lives to your will, that we may discover our true vocation and fulfill the good works you have prepared for us, just as Lilias Trotter did, may her faith and obedience inspire us to follow in her footsteps."
