Why does God allow suffering?
The Biblical Answer
One of the most profound questions believers ask is why a loving God allows pain. The Bible does not shy away from suffering; in fact, it addresses it directly. While we may not always understand the specific reasons for our trials, scripture assures us that God is close to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18).
Suffering entered the world through the fall of humanity, but God uses even our deepest pain to refine our character, draw us closer to Him, and ultimately bring about His eternal purposes. As Romans 8:28 reminds us, He works all things together for the good of those who love Him. In our suffering, we are called to lean on His grace, knowing that our current pain cannot compare to the glory that will be revealed.
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
A Prayer for This
"Lord, in my moments of deepest pain and confusion, help me to trust Your heart even when I cannot see Your hand. Comfort me with Your presence and use my suffering for Your glory. Amen."
