What does it mean to be born again?
The Biblical Answer
In John 3, Jesus tells a religious leader named Nicodemus, "No one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again." This phrase can sound confusing, but it refers to a profound spiritual transformation.
When we are physically born, we receive physical life. But because of sin, our spirits are disconnected from God. Being "born again" is a spiritual rebirth that happens the moment we place our faith in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit comes to live inside us, giving us a new heart, new desires, and a restored relationship with our Creator. It is not about turning over a new leaf; it is about receiving an entirely new life from God.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"
A Prayer for This
"Heavenly Father, thank You for the miracle of spiritual rebirth. Create in me a clean heart, fill me with Your Holy Spirit, and help me to live every day as a new creation in Christ. Amen."
