Biblical Question
Understanding Suffering in a Loving God's World
The Biblical Answer
Dear friend, I know that the existence of suffering in the world can be a deeply puzzling and even faith-shaking experience. But let us look at this issue through the lens of Scripture, where we find that God is not only all-loving, but also all-powerful. In his sovereignty, God weaves together the threads of human freedom, the consequences of sin, and the redemption of His people.
The Bible teaches that suffering can result from the fall of humanity (Genesis 3), the consequences of our own sinful choices, and the natural consequences of living in a broken world. Despite this, God continues to love and care for us, offering hope, comfort, and a future beyond our current struggles (Romans 8:18-25). As we face suffering, let us not forget that Jesus himself suffered and was tempted, yet remained sinless and pure (Hebrews 4:15). He understands our pain and stands with us in it.
We can choose to trust that God is working in our lives, even when we do not see the immediate outcome. We can take comfort in knowing that His purposes are good, holy, and just (Romans 8:28).

A Prayer for This
"Dear Heavenly Father, help us to trust in Your sovereignty and goodness, even in the midst of suffering. Comfort us in our trials and give us strength to persevere with hope. In Jesus' name, Amen."
