Biblical Question
What Happens Immediately After a Person Dies?
The Biblical Answer
When a person dies, their spirit returns to God, who is the creator of their soul. This is described in Ecclesiastes 12:7, which says, 'Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was, and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.'
This concept is also alluded to in Psalm 103:4, where David writes, 'Who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion.'"
" This doesn't mean the person is no longer present in our lives. Rather, their soul is in the presence of God, awaiting the day of resurrection. We can be comforted knowing that our loved ones are with their heavenly Father, receiving the fullness of His love and care.
In addition, the Bible teaches that at death, our soul leaves the body and returns to God, while our body returns to the earth, awaiting the resurrection.
