What are Guardian Angels, and Do We Each Have One?

The Biblical Answer

In Christianity, a guardian angel is a celestial being assigned to watch over and protect a specific individual, often referred to as their 'guardian angel'. This concept is rooted in both Old and New Testament teachings. In the Bible, angels are described as messengers of God who carry out His will and serve as His ambassadors on earth.

The Bible teaches that each person has an angel assigned to them during their time in the womb and remains their protector until they are no longer on this earth (Psalm 91:11-12, Psalm 34:7). The purpose of a guardian angel is to watch over, guide, and protect us, especially in times of need or danger. While we don't see them explicitly mentioned in the Bible as being our constant companions, it's clear that they serve as a vital part of God's care and watchful eye over us.

Having a guardian angel doesn't replace personal responsibility or our direct relationship with God. Rather, it emphasizes the depth of God's love and provision for us in a practical way. It's a reminder that we are never alone and that God's care extends far beyond what we can see or understand.

"He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;"

Psalm 91:11 (NIV)

A Prayer for This

"Dear God, thank You for Your loving care and provision in our lives. Remind us that we are never alone, and that You have sent angels to watch over and protect us. Help us trust in Your goodness and faithfulness, even when we can't see Your plan unfolding."
