The Bible's Teaching on Sex Before Marriage: A Message of Hope and Guidance

The Biblical Answer

As followers of Christ, we're often faced with questions about our physical and emotional desires, especially when it comes to intimacy. The Bible teaches us that sex is a beautiful and sacred gift from God, meant to be enjoyed within the context of a committed, married relationship

In 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, the Apostle Paul writes, 'Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.' This passage emphasizes the idea that our bodies, including our sexual desires, are a sacred part of who we are as image-bearers of God. As such, we should seek to honor God with our bodies, especially in the most intimate and vulnerable areas of our lives. This means waiting until marriage to engage in physical intimacy, and instead nurturing and cultivating a deep emotional and spiritual connection with our future spouse.

This may not be an easy command to follow, especially in a culture that values instant gratification and promotes casual sex. However, the Bible encourages us to resist the temptation of premarital sex and to seek instead a relationship built on mutual respect, trust, and a commitment to one another. This kind of relationship is not only more fulfilling and sustainable in the long run, but it also honors God and reflects His love and values.

"1 Corinthians 6:19, 'Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own.'"

1 Corinthians 6:19

A Prayer for This

"Dear heavenly Father, help me to understand the beauty and significance of waiting for marriage to express my sexuality. Give me the strength to resist temptation and seek a relationship built on mutual respect, trust, and a commitment to one another. Help me to honor You with my body and to reflect Your love and values in all I do. In Jesus' name, Amen."
