Why Were Some Books Left Out of the Bible?

The Biblical Answer

As a Christian, it's natural to wonder why certain books, like the Book of Enoch, are not included in our Bibles. The truth is, the Bible contains the books that God intended for us to have. The process of deciding which books to include in the biblical canon was careful and intentional.

The Bible itself provides a clear explanation for the inclusion of certain books. In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, the Apostle Paul writes, "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." This verse emphasizes the inspiration and authority of Scripture.

Other factors, such as apostolic authorship, early church acceptance, and consistency with the rest of Scripture, also played a role in determining the canonical books. The Book of Enoch, while containing interesting and apocryphal material, does not meet these criteria, so it was not included in the biblical canon.

The exclusion of certain books like the Book of Enoch doesn't diminish their historical or cultural significance. Instead, it underscores the importance of having a unified and authoritative Scripture that provides guidance and direction for God's people.

Ultimately, we can take comfort in knowing that our Bibles contain the very words of God, breathed out for our instruction and delight.

"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."
