Fivio Foreign Says No Sex Before Marriage Is ‘the Hardest Part of My Walk With Jesus’
Fivio Foreign, the Brooklyn drill rapper behind “Big Drip” and a verse on Kanye West’s “Off the Grid,” has spent the last two months talking about his faith in public. He’s posted about getting baptized, and his newest statements are the most specific yet. He says abstaining from sex before marriage is “the hardest part of my walk with Jesus by farrrrr,” and in a recent interview on Sway’s Universe he said he has been celibate for about two months.
In the Sway’s Universe conversation, he said he almost broke the streak the night before the interview, and he described what discipline does for him clearing out the “distractions of the girls.”
The vow sits alongside a larger shift he has been documenting, and it started before his baptism. On New Year’s Eve, Fivio said he was admitting himself to rehab for a week or two, according to 99 Jamz Miami. “I want to change, I wanna live,” he said. On July 9, he posted a gym video on Instagram with on-screen text reading “This is 6 Months Sober & Keeping God First.”
In August, Fivio posted that he had been baptized. “I got baptized today,” he wrote, according to XXL. “I pray I keep the promises I made to God.” He followed it with a post saying he planned to show how a gangsta could make a gospel song.

In July he released “Chasin’,” a gospel-choir single dedicated to his late mother, and a gospel-inspired album has been reported as on the way.
He has been careful about the label. On Shade Room Live, he said, “I’m just Fivio. I’m trying to praise God through my music. I don’t want to worship the devil through my music.”
He added that he doesn’t “feel like I’m a gospel artist.” He repeated the framing on Sway’s: “I’m just Fivi and I’m just trying to praise God through my music.”
He also described the cost of the road. “You got to put in a little pain for God if you want to get where you need to be,” he said on Shade Room Live.
Complex notes Fivio isn’t the first rapper to go public with a vow like this. 50 Cent, Omarion and Redman have made similar commitments. Fivio is narrating the struggle in real time, which is considerably more interesting than pretending the decision suddenly became easy after baptism.
Fivio is also a father of three. He hasn’t put an expiration date on the vow; marriage is the line he has publicly drawn.
